A comparison of two ventilator systems using an infant lung model.

چکیده
STANDARD adult circle systems (with adult ventilator bellows and carbon dioxide absorber) equipped with pediatric circuit hoses, rather than semiclosed partial rebreathing systems or specially designed pediatric circle systems (with small ventilator bellows and carbon dioxide canister), often are used to ventilate infants and children during administration of anesthesia. If adult circle ventilator systems are used, it is important to understand the possible limitations and to make necessary modifications of adult techniques for use with infants. One limitation of this equipment for infant ventilation is the difficulty in determining how to set the tidal volume (‘IT) if using a time-cycled, volume-limited mode of ventilation to ensure that the patient receives the desired TV. The large compression volume of the circle

Some Infant Ventilator Systems
The pressure:flow relationships which occur when four infant ventilator systems are attached to model lungs have been investigated. The results show that all four systems were capable of ventilating model lungs with satisfactory values for minute volume but two of the systems had features due to poor expiratory pathway design that were considered unsatisfactory. The expiratory pathway of a T-pi...

Introduction Radiotherapy with small fields is used widely in newly developed techniques. Additionally, dose calculation accuracy of treatment planning systems in small fields plays a crucial role in treatment outcome. In the present study, dose calculation accuracy of two commercial treatment planning systems was evaluated against Monte Carlo method. Materials and Methods Siemens Once or linea...
متن کاملThe use of chilled condensers for the recovery of perfluorocarbon liquid in an experimental model of perfluorocarbon vapour loss during neonatal partial liquid ventilation
BACKGROUND Perfluorocarbon (PFC) vapour in the expired gases during partial liquid ventilation should be prevented from entering the atmosphere and recovered for potential reuse. This study aimed to determine how much PFC liquid could be recovered using a conventional humidified neonatal ventilator with chilled condensers in place of the usual expiratory ventilator circuit and whether PFC liqui...
متن کاملDifferential lung ventilation via tracheostomy using two endotracheal tubes in an infant: a case report
BACKGROUND This case report presents differential lung ventilation in an infant. The aim is to define an alternative technique for performing differential lung ventilation in children. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of this kind. CASE PRESENTATION A 4.2-kg, 2.5-month-old Asian boy was referred to our facility with refractory hypoxemia and hypercarbia due to asymmetric ...
متن کاملComparison of the Effects of Prone and Supine Positions on Abdominal Distention in the Premature Infants Receiving Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (NCPAP)
Background: Premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) are in dire need of respiratory support with a ventilator. However, the high tidal volume of mechanical ventilation may cause lung injury, and researchers have been concerned with the use of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP). NCPAP has concomitant side effects, such as abdominal distention, which might disrup...
